Avengers Vs. X-Men Round Nine is Amazing!

I'll try and keep this post to as little spoilers as possible seeing as how the book just came out today. With being in between jobs right now my funds are limited but when I saw the cover to Avengers vs. X-Men #9 I knew this was a book I needed to pick up from the comic shop.

The Story credits go to an Ocean's 11 of comic book writers, Jason Aaron, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction and Jonathan Hickman, so you know you're in for a Spectacular tale. The inside pencils are done by legend Adam Kubert with inks by John Dell while the cover was done by Jim Cheung, Mark Morales and Justin Ponsor. If that drawing of Spider-Man beaten and bruised doesn't get you to want to open this book you are not a comic book fan.

The story of the Avengers vs. The X-men continues, as the Phoenix Five, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Colossus, Magik and Namor have now become the Phoenix Four. With Namor being defeated by The Avengers his power of The Phoenix left him and went into the other four members making them even that much more powerful.

The Avengers have retreated to the ancient hidden city of Kun Lun, home of Iron Fist and his clan, there they train Hope Summers for the coming battle and attempt to heal from the poundings they're taking from the X-Men. The power of the Phoenix is clearly growing in the four and corrupting their thoughts and actions slowly. It seems to be hitting harder those who are predisposed to having visions of grandeur and a touch of the dark side in them.

Namor, being the pompous King that he is did a full on attack against the country of Wakanda, decimating it before he was taken down. Magick, Illyana Rasputin has brought a piece of Limbo to Earth and is using it as a prison to hold the captive Avengers. Emma Frost was the one who gave Namor the information and essentially encouraged him to start the attack. As it stands right now only Colossus and Cyclops have shown some sort of control over the Phoenix force inside of them and are doing everything than can to be the people they've always been.

In an attempt to break the fallen Avengers out of their Limbo prison, the Avengers consisting of Captain America, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, She Hulk, Wolverine and Spider-Man are discovered and attacked by the brother and sister team of Colossus and Magik. In a self sacraficing act Spider-Man gets the other Avengers to safety and attempts to take on two Phoenix powered X-Men on his own.

Beaten litterally to a pulp, the wall crawler never gives up and continues to take on the two despite the fact that their is no chance of him winning. The outcome of the fight is completely unexpected, keep reading if you don't mind the spoilers below.

Spider-Man does what he does best, he doesn't give up and he talks smack, so much smack he actually gets Colossus and Magik to turn on each other and take each other out. The Avengers return to find a completely battered Spider-Man and the two fallen X-Men. Spider-Man once again shows he is the ultimate and best of all the super heroes in the entire Marvel Universe, there is nothing he wont try and do if it will save lives. However the group does realize that this means the remaining power has now gone to the ultimate power couple in the Marvel Universe, Cyclops and Emma Frost.

The last page of the book shows Cyclops ripping the fabric between dimensions and coming to Kun Lun only to say to Hope, "Time to come home." How this will fare for the rest of the Avengers is something we'll have to wait and see. Will this immensely powerful Cyclops take down the Avengers on his own, or will he continue to hold on to his humanity and leave them their in the alternate dimension as he leaves with Hope?!

We'll have to wait two weeks to see, and wow this is killing me, excellent job Marvel, you've got me completely hooked.
